Pretty sure my rope does not have a dry treatment... and I've definitely washed it. Do l need a new rope?

Weeeell l am not qualified to advise u on safety equipment, but here is what l Think:

dry treatment is a DWR (durable water repellent) coating that they impregnate the rope sheath fibres with in the factory. This allows the water to bead up on the rope & slide off, hence not making ur rope soggy. Or something similar anyway.

everybodys' ropes get dirty when they've been used a lot, dragged through the mud, through the dust, & in salt & fresh water puddles. it is nice to have a clean rope. so people clean their ropes by washing/soaking them in a bucket of warm soapy water.

personally l do not see how washing ur rope would affect its usability, unless you've made it rot or washed it in acid or something, & i'm pretty sure that there is no reason why u should not wash a rope without dry treatment (particularly as these r the ropes that would need more washing!)

You really have not been terribly detailed with ur question so i'm not entirely sure what you're talking about, but l hope this helped, add more details if u want a better answer, but basically;
everyone washes their rope, does not matter if its dry treated or not, but if u have a reasonable doubt, consult a professional.

1. You can check with the mfg. so determine if the rope has a factory dry treatment.

2. Factory dry treatment does not last forever that is why people who use them for glacier travel, usually do not keep them for that use very long.

3. If you're worried about dry treatment, there r rope treatments available, but YOU MUST CHECK WITH THE MFG. BEFORE USING IT TO SEE IF IT'S COMPATIBLE WITH YOUR ROPE.

4. Ropes can be washed/dried but, make sure to follow the mfg. suggestions. Dirty ropes r bad. The dirt works into the fibers & act as an abraisive which can cut/grind ur rope.

Thank you.

There is nothing wrong with washing your rope, it is a good thing. Just do not let it dry in the sun, or on the other hand pack it away wet. You only really need dry treatment for winter use, so the rope does not get iced up and impossible to use.

My ropes do not have ''dry'' treatments either & l wash them in a special rope wash to get rid of aluminum, dirt, & other contaminants that will shorten the life of the rope. l would check the care instructions for ur particular rope, but I've never heard of a rope that could not be washed.

l would recommend hand washing with the recommended type of soap & laying it out to dry very slowly indoors or in the shade (remember that excessive heat & sunlight is the #1 enemy of any rope).

Good Luck
