You need to pieces of rope to tie a blake hitch onto your climbing line, would it be safe too cut a meter lenght off the bottom of my climbing line to use for a blake hitch....or is that unwise and shud by a different piece of rope...

Thanks

Buy a different piece of rope. You'd be surprised how often you need an extra couple meters on your main line.

You should not cut any off of your main rope - for one you would have to properly finish the end with a flame or heat source and you should NEVER have one of those near your rope. You could also lash the end, but those tend to come off.

The other reason is that your rope is a dynamic rope and you do not need dynamic rope for tying a hitch - you can use static rope of the correct diameter and strength - it is much cheaper than dynamic climbing rope.

Good Luck

l am afraid l must disagree with one thing that Tahoe says, with regards to having a heat source near rope.
Everywhere I've seen that sells climbing rope by the metre from a reel uses a hot wire to cut through the rope at the appropriate lengths, so it is definitely possible to do this safely.

However, like others have said, it is probably better to buy an extra few bits of rope to do what u want to do, it is always handy to have as much rope as possible, especially on long climbing routes or alpine routes, for abseils & lower-offs!
