l have heard some things about a rock climbing instructor certificate, EMT cert., Wilderness First Responder cert., NASAR cert... is there anything else?

Also if l have all my certifications, could l get hired to do it in one place for 6 months or less? l am in college right now and have most of the certifications and was wondering if l could take a year or so off and do that and ski patrol for a year before med/grad school. Or if Search and Rescue is a job reserved for career professionals.

Most SAR jobs are volunteer. We do it because one day it might be us that needs the help or because we like to help others. The National Association for Search and Rescue (NASAR) is a good place to start. Take their SAR Tech I l training. The NCRC, (National Cave Rescue Commission) a dividion of the NSS is also a way of getting in touch with the rescue community.
