l am flying home after living in Canada for a year and along with the accumulation of all my clothes/books etc l wanna take my climbing rack back with me. l have seen lots of websites advising about how to pack so that your gear does not get damaged or the airlines dont think your trying to pack away bombs when they see the outline of a cam on there machines but no-one seems to be worried about the weight. My rack weighs a tonne, has any-one had any experience with this and has any futher advise.
oh l also have a snowboard to take back with me, one of my freinds suggested stashing my rack in that bag since l can check my snowboard in for free?

l would look into mailing it with insurance. Could save you a head ache at the airport.

If it goes over 50 pounds you will. And some airlines are charging for extra bags anyway. It is worth it just to ship it to the address you are going to. And if your rack weights a ton, you need to seriously think about which toys you really need hanging from it!

Only if ur bag weighs over 50lbs - why not pack parts of ur rack in two seperate bags & make sure each is under the weight limit. You wo not have any problems with security, l pack this stuff as well as custom electronics all the time & have never had any problems in customs. Just make sure u tell them u bought everything in the US & r returning with the same equipment.

Shipping insured seems like a good idea, but if u actually loose something that is shipped insured they will ask u for the receipt of the goods lost before reimbursing - most people do not keep all those receipts.

Good Luck
