What are carbohydrate drinks and why we should use them during heavy sports like climbing and hikin

l believe you are referring to Gatorade -- it is high in potassium, carbohydrates and vitamins, which is perfect for such physical activities, because it keeps your energy level high and keeps you hydrated.

Most of them are just flavored sugar water. You are better off eating a bunch of carbs and just drinking water. Sugar is not what your body needs, it gives you a quick boost, but you will crash.
The electrolytes contained in many of these drinks are good for you, but you can get them from foods as well.

The only sports drink l use is Nuun. It is sugar free, so l get the electrolytes and not the sugar crash.

They r sports drinks like Gatorade. The reason that we use sports drinks when hiking & climbing is that we r burning a LOT of calories & need to stay hydrated - so drinking something with carbs that is easy to mix on the trail makes sense.

Staying hydrated during heavy exersion is very important but hard to do. l am able to drink more when drinking a sports drink. When u get the dry powder mix & mix it on the trail with water filtered from a lake or stream u r able to get extra calories that do not weigh a lot - because u have to carry all ur food.
