I am going rockclimbing tonight in southern Utah and I am not sure exactly what kind of clothing l should wear. Would a pair of keds and shorts work? Or do l need something different?

Usually people like to climb with something that covers their knees for protection, but l climb in shorts all the time. Capri pants might work - just make sure u can really move & r able to step high without ur clothes binding.

l would suggest a little more rugged shoe for the walk in & obviously u r not going to be climbing in Keds - u should have actual rock shoes.

Make sure u bring a jacket, a hat, sunscreen, bug spray & some food & water & some basic personal items in a backpack.

l assume more experienced climbers r bringing the climbing gear - just make sure u try on ur harness & rock shoes before u go. l would also ask if anyone will let u use a helmet.

Good Luck

normally people use climbing shoes but if u dont have any then a shoe that will be comfortable walking in so u can get to the climbs then make sure its tight fitting & tied tight.

for clothes if its hot dress for heat if its cold dress warm. stretchy clothes that dont restrict ur limbs r good. but l also have friends who climb in jeans . so its prefeance. if u climbing on rocks that r unforgiving something that covers knees is always good. PS bring water

EDIT******************

BRAVO to the guy above me good call on the helmet l always have mine & assume other use them asswell but l forget people dont alwasy use helmets. so l will second that use a helmet

Anything thats allows you to move freely, and If you do not have climbing shoes, any athletic closed toe shoe should work. **Wear a helmet** it hurts to get hit by stuff in the head Ouch**

Climbing clothes r basically anything that u feel comfortable climbing in. Me for instance, l simply climb in a T-shirt & cargo shorts usually, or my patagonia preformance shorts. Anything that is flexible & alows u to move freely is always the best to climb in. :) O, & it depends on what type of climbing u r doing. If its free climbing or blouldering u can climb in any of those clothes l have suggested, but if it top roping or lead climbing, always wear protective clothing & wear climbing helmets, oh, & always check ur gear to make sure its working properly. Good luck & have fun!
