push ups, elevate ur feet,on a foot stool or chair at first,as u get better elevate ur feet higher ,till u can put ur body on a wall & do hand stand push ups that is when u will know that ur wrist & hands will carry ur weight ,then add weight to ur ankles as u get stronger,do it 2 or 3 times a day as much as u can stand,it takes a lot of work soon u will be as strong as me & my sons,i have done this since 1973 ,our forearms look like Popeye is ,you must to get used to ur own body weight ,it is the only way

If u want grip strength, u r correct that the way to do that is to build up the muscles in ur forearms (that is where the muscles r that move ur fingers).

The best way, of course, is to climb a lot. If u cannot do that, dead hangs (hanging from ur hands) r also very good. You can hang off a door frame or a pull up bar. Even better, u can get a climbers ''training board'' & hang it above a door way. These simulate different holds - mine is great & helped me get stronger.

Ok so this has sooooo many that r all good ill try a few. The first & best way is to climb & climb a lot. When u go to a rock gym try campusing things. find large jugs & try to climb up them with just ur hands not foot holds this will really pump ur forearms. Another thing if u have a desk job or watch tv buy an hand strengthaner & use it when ur not moving around this will help ur forearms a lot. And the last thing for finger strength try 2 3 & 4 finger dead hangs & pull ups. This is usually done best with a finger board u can buy them at RE l or most sports stores. If u dont have one l use the molding around my door frame just make sure its secure so u dont pull it off.

Apart from climbing or campus boards, you can buy a wrist exerciser. Its like a nut cracker with a spring and you just squeeze it closed, it springs open and you repeat as many times as you can. You can do this just relaxing. Try your local climbing shops. Dont bother with press ups, there are not many push away movements in climbing and you could be exercising the wrong muscle groups.
