Can u get up helvellyn with out walking up swirral or striding edge? and is it safe to clim for inexperienced walkers?

l do not know where this is, but l would say I'd be choosey about my walking & climbing buddies. Your life may depend on it.

If u have a good map (or experienced guide), the right clothing / gear / food / water, & do it the right time of year u should be able to get to the top without too much drama. Do ur research & get in shape before starting:

Even those edges usually have trails along the top edge & really r not very difficult to traverse. Do not need to do the whole thing on ur first try - work up to it & gain skills & confidence as u try more difficult terrain on each attempt - that is how most people learn mountaineering

l walked up to the top of Helvellyn with a huge pack on my back & never touched the mountain with my hands or felt unsteady.

You start on the other side - by Thirlmere - & do not need to climb or scramble at all. The Western side of the mountain is a gentler gradient & wide instead of steep & rocky.
You'd be at the top (which itself is very wide & flat) no bother.

l would not recommend swirral or striding edge for inexperienced walkers, despite there being a slightly easier track a few feet down from the actual ridge. It can still be a little intimidating for some, especially if the weather is not brilliant.
Personally, as a rule l do not go somewhere (climbing, walking, paddling) if l am not confident in my abilities both physically & mentally. Push yourself but trust ur instinct & assess the risks.
The two edges r some of the places where people do ''fall off mountains'' with disastrous consequences.

Enjoy the walk from the other side, & please remember to plan & be prepared for any outing into the mountains. Weather, kit, navigation, group fitness, someone knowing where you've gone & what time u will be back r all things to consider.

Above all, enjoy yourself & be confident that you're making the right choices.
