in august, and l wanna get in really good shape for it. l go to a Crossfit class 2 days a week, but nothing else besides that right now. l was wondering if anyone knew what types of exercises or routines would be good to prepare me for it, and help me gain some muscle strength.

jogging and any arm and leg strengthening exercises you know

the best exercise, in my opinion, is good old sit-ups. they tone your core. Work more on flexibility, just good streatching. It has benefited me far more than brute strength when l climb.

if u r going to rock climb u need to be in great shape even for beginner climbs

running is good, for the cardio
do stairs, lots of stairs, rock climbing utilized the leg muscels as u need to use ur legs to lift u up

you need to do hand exercises, & lots of them. u need to be able to get a finger on a hold & hold yourself there or pull yourself up

get a wheel, with an axis & stand with ur feet on the ground, & let the wheel roll out until u r stretched out, toe to hand, suspended an inch or two above the floor & then come back up in inch worm fashion

do ballet exercises,

eat right, get sleep, knock of alcohol & anything stronger than coffee

work out hard one day, rest the next, do total body

your life is the pay off
the experience is worth it.

unable to do it anymore due to an injury, but l envy that u can.

let me know how much u love it

You need alot of leg strength so work your legs alot,But you have to ues your arm is so l would say to lift weights an do not let your muscles get to tight.

Why not do some indoor climbing? That is the best correlation to real climbing experience and strength, though people often try to climb too hard and end up with finger issues as a result.

The best thing for climbing is climbing, the next best thing is probably yoga, which builds core strength and flexibility at the same time. Generally speaking, though, doing any activity will be enough to keep you fit enough for routine (not extremely difficult) climbing.

Well, for one, you could go rock climbing if there is a local gym around. If not, here are a few things that will help you get in shape.
-push ups
-crunches
-TV watcher (where you lie on your stomach with your arms under you holding you up, and you are like a board, you should get an abb work out)
-lifting weights
-sit ups

l am sure that you can think of many more to do! Good luck!

Find an indoor climbing wall & just keep going as much as u can. It is fun for one thing. And you're going to need technique more than strength. Believe me. Try & find some people who r interested in doing a few classes & see if u can find someone to do some rock climbing classes with you.

Also, l don' know how advanced u are, but u will get much more out of it if u can lead climb. If u have not already, try & find out about a learning to lead climb course. You've loads of time before August.

Work on ur finger strength. Try pushups with ur palms elevated slightly. Try chinups with ur 3 middle fingers on each hand, or just hang with them for as long as u can. You will feel a lot of tightness in ur forearms after a little while. Thats ur clue to take a break - do not overexert yourself & injure yourself. Upper body strength is important, but u can get away with a lot if u have the right technique. If u use ur legs as much as possible, & keep ur arms straight & locked, they wo not tire as quickly.

You might want to find a local climbing gym - the best training for climbing is climbing itself.
