What can l do about my hands while l climb? My hands get sweaty and l use chalk, but its hard to get a hold of the chalk bag sometimes during a climb! What can l do?

l saw a lot of chalk bags hanging from a single large carabiner at Smith Rock last weekend . They are hard to find down low and swinging around so l suggest that you take some time and position the bag at the center rear of your harness with small bieners or zip ties to keep it where you want it.

When you stop and chalk up is the rest spot to relax your arm and drop it below your heart. Breathe and relax to sweat less.

l have the same problem, so l switched to loose chalk for one, l used to use the chalk ball, but did not get enough coverage for my hands. Secondly, l bought a large mouthed chalk bag and l hang it from a secondary belt rather than a biner from my harness. That way it stays close to my body and does not swing around. Oh, and l always, always give my hands a very liberal chalking up before l start a route, making sure to get both front and back.

Happy cimbing

Get a harness that has a ''haul loop'' on the back - u can clip the chalk bag to the loop & it will never slide to one side or another - it will always be exactly in the center of ur harness.

l really like the ''Verve'' chalk bags. Get one that is big enough to hold a chalk bag & some loose chalk in the bottom. Use the loose chalk before u start climbing & the ball to dry ur hands & re-chalk as u go.

The other advice l have seems simple, but very few do it: Wash ur hands to remove the oil before u climb - it really does help.

Good Luck

Get a bit of chord and fasten the chalk bag around your waist over your hips. It works find for me regardless of what kind of chalk l am using. Also keep in in the centre of the small of your back.

Ok so to help keep ur hands dry & help minimize the times u rechalk during a climb what l like to do is use a bunch of waterless hand sanatizer the alcohol evaporating really drys ur skin out after that use ur chalk like normal. l really works. l found this stuff its liquid chalk u rub it on ur hands & then it drys white kinda like chalk then u use chalk on top of that its basically the same thing as the hand sanatizer concept. the only problem is its really hard to find & kinda exspensive. then for the chalk bag moving around listen to the other zip tie it to the back haul loop or carabiner it to back of ur harness or get a chalk bag belt & tie it really tight.
