Start off walking. Then increase the time/distance that you walk. You will prob. start to lose weight, and then you will really be able to train.

l do not think the rope they use can hold more than about 150 pounds.

Just start hiking on the weekends.

TC.the ropes used for climbing are strong enough to hold a small car.

Hey! Climbing is one of the best workouts in the world! You can start climbing, & loose weight at the same time! If u r uncomfortable, l would recommend that u start to eat right. l know it is one of the worst four letter words in the whole dictionary, but u may want to go on a diet. How tall r u anyways? My dad is 6 2' & he is 200 pounds. You could limit ur sweet intake, (diet), & get a membership with a club. Make goals. Go on walks everyday, no matter how short, 10 minutes is better than none. Limit T.V watching, less than 3 hours a week, choose ur favorite shows, & watch only them. You could get a dog, & that would encourage u to walk. Go on hikes, rockies r great! Get a friend or ur girlfriend to go with u on camping trips, start snowboarding, or rowing. There r a ton of fun things out there for u to do to get u in shape for rock climbing, & again, nothing will get u in better shape for rock climbing than climbing. You just have to keep faith, results will be slow, but if u want this enough, u can do it.
GOOD LUCK!!

Your weight is not a problem. l used to belay someone who weighed 240 when l was 120 and it was fine (although l did get pulled off the ground a foot or two if he took a fall and l was not properly anchored to the ground. The best way to get into it is to take a class from a professional in order to learn the proper safety precautions, how to use the equipment, and proper technique. Have fun!
