What does rock climbing work out? Primary? Secondary?

Ideally rock climbing should be a full body (and mind)workout. Most people will rely primarily on upper body strength with emphasis on fingers hands and forearms tho. That is definitely me because l am just not that good.

The primary workout is the forearms (the muscles that move the fingers and hands) and the calf muscles (which support your body weight when your feet are on small edges or holds).

The secondary and more unknown area that gets a workout during climbing is the ''core'' - the muscles that hold the body in a particular position while the arms and legs do their work.

Yeah, l would honestly have to say that the legs get pretty tired while the arms feel like they could just keep going, when you're a little more experienced. When you start your arms get tired faster. Mid experienced climbers tend to get something called 'disco leg' when they start leading. This is because of a mixture of tiredness and nerves, from standing on your toes for so long trying to clip in an extender or place a nut.
