l do not think that there r any actual accounts of daily activities on the first assent in 1953, so u can read about the summit day here & make up some additional facts:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Everest#Early_expeditions
Back then, they climbed in leather boots, used hemp ropes, pounded pitons into the rock with hammers & wore wool clothing - there were no light weight synthetics.
Keep in mind that there were dozens of team members that would carry equipment to the next camp - sometimes it would take several days of trips back & forth to move from one camp to the next. Only the summit team & a few other team members would make it to the highest camp & only the summit team would set out for the summit. This team depended on everyone else is help to succeed.
Good Luck

Hi! They sure assign more exciting projects these days then they did back in.well forget it.
l would advise u to go to a good public library with an online catalog & find FICTIONAL works about Hillary is climb. Many fiction writers do excellent research into the equipment, technique, surroundings of that times & u can benefit much from their work. Often the most fictional parts r the personalities & stories, but the background information u seek may well be there in an enjoyable form. You can use & cite these works, explaining to ur instructor HOW u used a fictional work as an actual source of truth & also the works may provide u with search terms to go father in ur research. Have fun!!! Also, when u ask this type of question, please include ur grade in HS or year in college--it helps us help you.

Try this ( l know it is a book, but.):
The Ascent of Everest by Sir John Hunt.it is the expedition book. It contains ALL of the information you will need on their gear and the climb.

Thanks for waiting until the last minute on this Q we all do appreciate it -we really do . Now that I've criticized u let me help u out a bit. Some of this stuff u will have to make up & as long as u stay within the basic hiker/climber journal format u should be believable My hiking journals always begin w/ the time of day , a note on the morning weather , a note on how l slept & a note on what the nights weather was like. l then continue the process during the day is hike adding info about weather, terrain, way points reached, how l am doing , how the gear is working & then at the end of the day when l am snug in my down bag with a candle lantern snapped into a baby biner providing the necessary light. l drink my coffee & cognac & finish my journal page l am pretty sure that Sir Edmund would have followed a similar format. Good luck

l think they just used hardware store hammers back then..ya'know like turned backwards? For protection they just pounded railroad spikes into the ice, wrap some wire around, and yer good to go! Let is see.. big ol' static ropes tied in a bow around the waist. l think the corn-cob pipe was an important piece of gear back then, to help them relax and ponder about routefinding.. The tobbaco smoke also helped them adjust to the altittude..
