l would like to know if l can use this rope for purposes like top-roping a route or lead-climbing in sport or trad situations. I am certain that it can at least be used for rappeling, but l would like to know if it can support a top-rope fall or even a lead-climbing fall. The full specs are: PMi brand, Rescue Kernmantle, 150' length, 3/8'' or 9.5 mm diameter, E-Z-Bend, 5,265 tensile, lot no. OZF94SZ1MM

Most rescue ropes are made not to stretch--typically you are being pulled up. Climbing ropes have to stretch--You may fall. It would probably work for top-roping, but it would be much better to just get a climbing rope--you're worth it!

l would say that with a 9.5mm diameter it is quite thin and wouldnt be suitable for leading with.
top-roping ropes dont need to stretch as much tho so it would be okay for that.
i would ask a climbing gear shop tho just to make sure
happy climbing.

Most ''rescue'' ropes r low-stretch static ropes & would only be acceptable for rappel or top rope. Also, most ropes that have a fractional inch (3/8'') diameter r static ropes. Do not guess - make sure the rope is correct for how u r going to use it.

MAKE SURE that any rope used for lead climbing is a dynamic rope UIAA rated for lead climbing - never lead climb on a static rope as it wo not stretch when u fall & therefore it will have too much force on ur body when it catches u - it could injure you, break bones, etc - climb safe!

Good Luck

In a top roping situation it would be OK.not the best, but it will do the job. We recently switched over nearly all the dynamic ropes on our climbing tower & challenge course to static ropes. Mostly for longevity of the rope. ACCT standards allow for static rope to be used in these situations because the elements r usually only 40 feet off the ground & most falls r only a few feet. 9.5mm is an acceptable diameter for top roping & rappelling as well.

If u plan to do lead climbing u will want the UIAA certified dynamic rope. A static rope cannot absorb the stress of a typical lead fall.

Willie Taho and Nelson are all right on. No dynamics No lead! The rope you have may have a lot of use on it? you did not say if it was new or not. It may be ok for top roping if you know it is history but I'd rather see you get yourself a rope that you can trust through a person that knows what is good for what you will be doing with it. And l personally do not top rope with the same rope that l lead with.
