l am 38 yrs old female, 75 kgs and 5''2. l used to walk for 45 minutes for 3 months but my weight remained the same. l reduced my food intake also to half during this period. Someone told me to climb the hill for fast weight loss. There is a hill shrine near our house with around 500 steps. Climbing up the hill with four short halts takes 35 munutes and the climbing down takes 10 minutes. On the whole (including walk from and to home) will take around 50 minutes. l have been doing it every day for the past 10 days. My legs and knees pained a lot initially but now the pain has decreased. Now please tell me. Is it a good excercise to loose weight? Is it good for my knees to climb up the hill everyday? If not what should l do to loose weight.

No, not for losing weight. It is good for strengthening ur legs & knees, but for weight-loss walking briskly the same amount of time is better. You have to control ur breathing & make sure ur hydrated. If ur concerned about ur weight, then go to a nutritionist & see what ur diet consist of. If ur serious then nothing is better than LA Weight Loss program, because a group has a profound effect on the mental part of it, & u will learn something new. 75 kgs is not that big to start with, maybe u have a large bone structure, & it might not be healthy to lose too much weight. Exercise & Healthy diet r the way to go.

Hill climbing burns more calories than brisk walking.

You have to account that it also part endurance training because you're fighting against gravity when climbing up hill.

As for ur knees, u can alternate a high impact workout w/ a low impact workout so u would not suffer from repetitive strain on ur knees & legs.

Make a workout rotation, alternate hill climbing, walking, then add cycling or swimming, as those last two r low impact exercises. Make sure that u rest between high impact exercises. You can climb one day, then rest the next, then u can brisk walk the day after.

Also add weight training in ur rotation. Cardio exercises alone does not really work in losing weight & keeping it off. You have to add strength training as well. You need to tone up because additional muscle mass burns more calories.

You can check it out, there r guidelines & instructions in this link --->

The walking & hill climbing u r doing r good/adequate exercise, however, by reducing ur calorie intake so much, u may have halted ur metabolism unknowingly.

Starving ur body of calories will make ur system hold on to every calorie of food u put into it. So, even though you're eating much less, ur body is not sure when it will get nutrition again, so it holds onto each & every calorie u give it.

To get ur metabolism burning calories, make sure you're eating within 30 minutes of waking up in the morning, & eat small meals all thru the day. Eat a small amount of lean protein with EVERY meal, & eat about 5 times a day. You should see results then.

Weight loss requires an increase in heart rate. So either if ur not used to it will provide some out come. The key is to keep yourself active & pushing (provided ur health & body can manage it). But the down side is impact on ur bones & muscles, moderation until u r stronger in heart & in muscle will go a long way in making ur work out better for you. I'd focus on low impact & cardio to get u fit & then start pushing yourself for the weight loss u want. Diet also is important. Prepared foods with their chemical preservatives & salts should be avoided as well as foods cooked in fat. Being healthy & staying healthy is a life style change, not a fad diet & new work out program. It is all of that every day, & that is the hardest thing to change, l know, I've been trying everyday.
