Ok so I am planning to climb Pikes Peak after christmas and a buddy of mine wants to come. Now l have all the right gear to make the climb (crampons, snowshoes, ice axe, etc) but he does not have most of those things that l think are needed.
My question is does he need a harness? ice axe?
Also, are there ski shops where he can rent showshoes in that area?
Has anyone climbed it in the middle of the winter that can offer advice or just describe their expierience?

Unless you are doing a technical route, you probably do not need harnesses. l would take crampons and an ice axe along, just in case. Snowshoes - definitely (at least until you hit the wind packed snow above treeline).

RE l has a store in Colorado Springs and should be abel to rent most of the stuff you require. The store is web page is below.
