i've never rock climbed and l dunno what to wear like should l wear tennis shoes, is jewelry okay, shorts or pants, that kind of thing. it is indoors

do not wear jewelry, it can bind up in the rope, wear shorts or athletic pants and a moisture wicking t shirt. rent some rock shoes when you get to the gym and a chalk bag. happy climbing

*update* wearing socks with your rock shoes is entirely up to you my friend, however socks can slip in the shoe, and you will never get the same feel for the footholds wearing socks.

Most rock gyms rent shoes, harnesses, & chalk bags so do not worry about those items. (Remember to wear/bring socks.)

Not sure what types of jewelry you're referring to but ones close to ur body (i.e., earrings with studs/necklaces close to the neck/rings without settings) should be okay.

As for pants, a comfortable pair (preferably cargo-type shorts -- longer & roomier) r okay. If u will be in a harness, do not wear sweat pants (long or short) -- especially if you're modest. Also popular r long, looser canvas fabric pants.

Less worries in indoor climbing. You can rent your required gadgets except socks and clothing. Use rock climbing shoes. Short pants will facilitate your movements. Dont forget your gloves. No dangling jewelries. Remove your ring and wrist watch.

No jewlery. Other than that, u can wear anything that is comfortable & allows ur limbs a full, unrestricted, range of movement. Keep in mind that if it is hot outside, it will probably be even hotter in the gym. 3/4 length pants r popular because they protect ur knees from scratches.

For others, it is all about showing off their bodies, as if they were at the beach! l always thought climbing is a good way to put hair on ur chest, so to me shaving my chest might be counterproductive, but that is just me, lol.

Shorts only with cotton paddings on knees.

The best footwear that u can wear besides rock climbing shoes is tennis shoes. Climbing shoes would help u climb better & u can rent them for about $5 at the rock gym. As for clothing, wear something that u would exercise in. Do not wear shorts that r too short. Capris or pants would be best. Do not wear jewelry that would get in ur way: little earrings r ok just do not wear big ones, & do not wear rings, but it is best if u do not wear any jewelry at all. Think of it like yoga. Wear comfortable loose fitting clothes. l would suggest yoga pants, or shorts but u might bang ur shins up a bit. Wear socks as u will probably be renting climbing shoes with ur harness, & everyone wears those shoes as well. When u get ur own shoes that r not rented socks r no longer recommended. For the shoes u wear into the gym l would suggest something that gets on & off as easily as possible, loose tennis shoes or slippers. l use a pair of converse slip ons. The shoes u rent should be very tight right on the borderline of painful. You should not be able to wear them for more then 30 minutes at a time without feeling ur toes begin to go numb. If u r comfortable standing in them then they r probably too loose.
