Disc Golf. It is cheap, it is fun, and it is excercise.

Hi,
As it happens l also live in northumberland and l am also keen on rock climbing!

try that club, but it does only cover the north so it depends whether u'd mind travelling?

ps.
if u like mountain biking its worth joining 'newcastle mountain biking club' http://newcastlemtb.org/

e-mail me back on your results, deaks101.co.uk

hope this helps!

Hi, great to hear someone wanting to get into climbing.
From past experience many clubs r not too keen on novices, as many want as much time on the rock as possible & do not want to be teaching basics to others or want themselves put into a dangerous situation with a beginner. Not all r like this but some are.
As a different approach why do not u go on an introductory course at somewhere like 'Plas-Y-Brenin' the national mountaineering centre. They have a website which is very good. You can go on a 2,3 or 5 day course & learn the basics from the pros in a non pressure environment, u will also be learning alongside other beginners, so its a good opportunity to meet potential climbing partners for the future.

Obviously u do not have to stick to just rock climbing as well, look into some mountain days, kayaking, rafting, winter climbing - to name but a few. They do it all at 'PYB' & l can thoroughly recommend it - l sometimes climb with the guides from there when they r not teaching.

Happy climbing, maybe see u up a mountain someday.

you find a local rock gym and take a buddy along who is willing to climb with you, or at the least, belay your beginner butt until you find a decent climbing partner. look into outdoor classes as well, if you have an RE l store nearby they usually have a bulletin board back by the service counter that has all kinds of local stuff like that.
