For indoor, shoes, a harness, and a chalk bag with chalk are all you need, and you might be able to rent most of that at your gym. Check with your gym about the chalk, though, because some of them do not allow chalk.

rope, biners, atc, webbing, and you could be climbing outside. Just a suggestion!

JJ the climbing gear that you will need depends upon the style of rock climbing that you wish to do.
If you will simply be climbing in a indoor gym you will most likely just need shoes, a chalk bag, and a harness. This will be for rope climbing of course if you plan on bouldering only you should invest in some shoes.

Climbing Shoes- you can use sneekers, but it is like driving a geo metro instead of a corvette.
Chalk bag- This is optional, but it also make climbing a lot more enjoyable. The gym in downtown Atlanta requires a ''chalk sock'' that keeps down the mess.
Harness- This is an absolute necessity unless you do not plan on climbing higher than your shoulders.
Belay Device- another neccesity for climbing high.

Assuming u want to do something taller than bouldering.
Absolutely necessary ------------------------------ Harness: be sure to get this sized.nothing is worse than pinching from a harness where u do not want!
Belay device: start with something simple like an ATC & learn how to use it
Caribeaner: to attach the belay device to ur harness
INSTRUCTION!: Either from a very knowledgeable friend or from a pro at the gym. Most gyms wo not let u climb there until u can demonstrate some simple knots & ur belay technique anyway. If u learn this wrong, u can die, so hey.might as well do it right!
