l need a way to climb a large tree, like a pine, that has high limbs and a thick trunk.l figured pines would be easier to climb due to the fact that their bark (and even the other parts of the tree also) are fairly soft.By thick trunk, l mean one that you just barely reach your arms all the way around.l saw on Mythbusters (the one where they see if a ninja could walk on water) that the guy they got their info from had some things he put on his hands that had spikes and l wondered if you could use it for tree climbing. But any method, even unconventional ones, using rope, anything, please let me know! Thanks in advance!

you can rent some tools from a tool rental place that will help you. you will need a climbing rope (you need a special knot to help you descend), and a rope that goes around the tree. you will also need spurs. these are metal things that go over your boots (yes, you need a heeled shoe or boot) and they have a spur that sticks out the side. you basically place your lifeline rope around the tree and you start climbing. Fairly easy, but very hard on the kness after a while.

A ladder is the best method.
Spurs and ropes take training to use without killing yourself. You'd be better off tossing a rope into the canopy and use ascenders.

If u have a comfortable climbing harness u can use 2 webbing (sling) loops, girth hitched around the tree. One is longer with a loop or 2 tied in into to help pull yourself up with, then u slide up the lower, shorter one & sit on it. Then u can slide up the longer one again.. It could take a long time, especially if there r a lot of branches because u would have to untie each girth hitch to pass each tree. You would probably want to rappell down, but could potentially get back down the way u came up reversed.

Do not use a hammer & nails, if u fell u could slice yourself badly on the way down (on the nails).
