Ok so im going climbing this weekend and l was curious to what the best fabric or clothing to be worn during rock climbing. l know like gym short material is bad and cotton is good (i think) so go from there.

You really need some climbing boots that have been broken in. It may be a bit too late for that since it is this weekend. You can get them at WalMart for about $30. Do not wear gym shoes--they are too slippery.

Yes, looser, heavy cotton pants (in canvas or denim) that r about clam digger length (mid-calf) r good (protects ur knees from knicks & scratches from the rocks). If u do not have any, thicker cargo style pants work, too. (You're right, forgo the gym shorts or sweat pants -- especially if you're modest.)

As for shirts, plain tees work (but if you're going to someplace hot, perhaps a sweat wicking fabric might be better).

T-Shirt ,,, long sleeve or short is yr preference.

Bring a sweat shirt in case it gets cooler or windy.

It depends on the weather. Synthetics r good in most weather & cotton can be bad if it gets wet (it loses all insulation value & can chill you).

If it is nice & sunny - l wear loose fitting cotton shorts, with a t-shirt. Again - if cotton gets wet, it will make u cold - u may want to use synthetics for both the t-shirt & shorts. You could also wear ''man-pris''. And l usually carry a wind/rain shell & an insulating layer like a fleece jacket or pullover.

Tennis shoes or hiking boots would be good approach shoes, depending on the roughness of the terrain. Once u get to ur route, switch to rock climbing shoes.

Climbing attire is can be very important when climbing.
