l would be building it on the side of my gerage...So that whole space is open. The building is made of brick...not sure if that is even a consideration. Thinking of having a kick board on the bottom, and then using chains and such so that l might be able to have an overhang.

What if you screwed in wooden handholds? l had a climbing wall a while back and l cut holds from scrap wood(strong wood though), they are so much cheaper than buying real holds. You could make a brace system to have an overhang. Like have a sheet of plywood parallel to the ground at the top of the wall and brace it to the wall with two cross beams. Most people like personal climbing walls just to get stronger and practice technique, so you do not need anything too fancy.
