It would be very dangerous and difficult to climb in flip flops. You need special rock climbing shoes. If you do not have some, hopefully you can rent or borrow some.

Swim fins are better, so you have some aerodynamic control when you fall.

absolutely not! they have no traction so its easy for you just slip and fall!

Best shoes to use are 'rockshoes'. Plimsoll type soles work well - thin soles. Grip is not really an issue because rock climbing is esentially about finding footholds. Therefore the thinner shoe the better.
Flip flops are not the best idea because I'd imagine your toes would hurt a bit if you whacked them against a bare rock!

In a word no. Invest in a boot pair of boots that you can use for hiking and rock climbing.

If you are in a rock-climbing competition with another climber of equal status,it would be advantageous to you if your opponent were to wear flip-flops!

Flip Flops would only be good for rock climbing to use to slap the bugs and flies out of your way . good luck with the climb!

I've seen people climbing in slippers, some will understand that.
But yes, flip flops are great when rock climbing. l like to let my toes breath in between climbs at a cragg after some tough single pitches by throwing on a pair of flip flops. Sure.

l am not one who will tell reader to purchase climbing footwear presently haute couture. I've climbed since '64 mainly on mud smeared rotten limestone or wet lava using military surplus in speleological pursuits. l am presently using Red Wing Forest Firefighter Model boots for bouldering, caves, and woodland hikes but if flip-flops turn your crank then so be it.

Flip-flops r nearly the worst footwear to use for rock climbing.
However, there do exist flip-flops that r soled with rock climbing rubber. These r of course made by rock climbing shoe companies, & two reasons figure into their existence:
1) High-performance rock-climbing shoes r generally not very breathable, & coupled with the fact that they r designed to be worn without socks. they tend to make ur feet quite sweaty & funky (odoriferous). You can not ruin flip-flops with odor, so they end up being the after-climb footwear-of-choice in situations where u do not have to deal with challenging terrain on ur way back to ur car (such as the case for indoor climbing). But why climbing rubber? Read on.
2) Rock climbing gyms r concentrations of climbers in a local area, & as such is often a social group. Sometimes on ur way out of a gym, a friendly challenge arises. Your climbing shoes r already off, so what do u do? Climb in whatever you've got. It is lazy for you, & devastatingly humiliating to ur challengers if u ''send'' (complete) a route/problem in flip-flops while they're in their technically-superior rock-climbing shoes! To do so requires an obvious superiority in climbing prowess, but flip-flops shod with climbing rubber help with this. In other words, they r a cheat to humiliating ur friends (in friendly competition, of course).
